If you are thinking of coming to live in Kyoto for a few months or at most a year and you are forced to buy yourself some material that you did not find in your guest house, apartment or other, it could be frustrating and very expensive to have to buy everything new and then be forced moreover to pay for and dispose of it once you leave the place where you live, because maybe you don’t know it but if you live in the center of Kyoto and you want to dispose of bulky material such as appliances, mattresses or other and you have not been able to find anyone interested in these products you will pay out of your own pocket to have someone pick up these materials and then dispose of them, but don’t despair! There are some solutions that might perfectly suit you.
1) Thrift shops. There are many thrift shops in the city that offer a huge selection of commonly used products such as refrigerators, microwave ovens, rice cookers, kettles etc. In these shops you will not only be able to buy all these products and in some shops, paying a surplus even having them delivered directly to your home, but when you leave Kyoto you can even resell them to them, (practically free of charge, but always better than paying to dispose of them!). If you are looking for blankets and sheets only, these shops are 99% not for you.
2) Facebook Groups: Don’t underestimate the power of these groups. From the most famous “Kyoto Sayonara Sale” or “Kyoto Sayonara Sales” passing through “Kyoto Mottainai Giveaway! Every day they are born like mushrooms! If you keep constantly monitored these groups you will find many products also of excellent quality at very low prices and sometimes even There are also people with vans who carry out, for a fee, the delivery in case you can’t go in person. Beware of scams, however! Unfortunately, every rose has its thorns and often these groups are prey to scammers! Always payment to purchase and in cash Never money on paypal or current accounts.
